Wow, check out the transformation at Two Rivers Middle School! šŸŽ‰Our team worked their magic on everything you see hereā€”from the sleek drywall to the stunning wood ceilings. Co-living is the new ideology of neoliberal housing. This is the argument of this recent paper on the issue. Interesting, this ideology is made of the following believes: believe in a 'corporate futurism' (the future is like google), 'technocratic urbanism' (government as ticking boxes on how many units they make in how much square meters), 'market populism' (co-living operators are solving the housing crisis), 'curated collectivism' (cool architects can produce spaces that people like to use together, plug-and-play type of design). A nice application of google-ideology to housing, I would say. here the article https://lnkd.in/d3De-Jcp#postgrowthcitiesRichard RonaldCody Hochstenbach

How can we reshape our public spaces to nurture our cities and create healthy, sustainable and resilient places to live? Landscape Architects Churchman Thornhill Finch led the Shape My City students in a rethinking of Bristol's harbourside Amphitheatre. The session started with studying the site - looking at both the macro and micro scale - and then students reimagined the space through 3d sketches in collage and modelling. The students interrogated how we can create places to sit and spend time, to move through and to socialise, and how public spaces can give back to people of all ages and to nature. Proposals included water features, art work and play spaces, as well as plentiful planting šŸŒæ Consideration was given to permanent and temporary uses, how the space evolves through different times of day and year, and allowing people to walk, sit, cycle and skate through the same area in harmony with one another. This is the eighth session in the 2023-24 Shape My City programme. Applications for the 2024-25 programme are now open. The future of education depends on our willingness to think creatively and embrace innovation at every levelā€”whether it's designing the physical space, implementing new teaching methods, or creating environments that support student well-being. For school architects, educators, and interior designers, the challenge lies in staying AHEAD of the curve, seeking out NEW ideas, and always asking HOW we can make our schools better for the next generation of learners. In the end, the greatest innovation in school design is one that puts students at the center of the conversationā€”or as well like to call itā€”being #RadicallyStudentCenteredā„¢.Raymond C. Did you know that schoolchildren spend 8-900 hours at school each year? āŒšThatā€™s a lot of time, so our children should have the best indoor spaces to live, play, and learn in. As Europe, including the UK, faces a surge in school construction, itā€™s key that our architects and educators rethink school design. Here are three key elements that can improve school environments šŸ‘‡

This weekā€™s Salon on Affordable Housing was really a terrific discussion about different strategies for design of affordable housing. Wonderful to share info and see the work of my esteemed colleagues. A lot of the discussion centered around how to drive down costs and innovate. And how to design in such a way that communities can accept affordable housing in their midst. My take was that affordable housing needs to happen at scale, and we need density at transit and high ground. A healthy city has a mix of incomes and uses around transit. Great walkable neighborhoods should be accessible to all. We have a defecit of 135K affordable housing units in Miami Dade county. In previous generations, designers and developers were able to design and integrate housing with dignity for all incomes. I have lived in garden apartments in Miami Beach and other places in Miami and they were designed beautifully with access to green areas and plenty of natural light. There is a pressing need for all of us designers to do better for more people and to advocate for healthier, sustainable and more equitable communities. In this, I believe the Eames motto is correct. We should strive ā€œto make the best for the most for the leastā€. #designmatters #AffordableHousing #SustainableCities #EquitableDesign #ArchitectureForAll #HousingCrisis #InnovativeDesign #CommunityDesign #TransitOrientedDevelopment #SustainableLiving #DesignForChange #HousingForAll #GreenArchitecture #DesignEquity #ResilientCities #ArchitectsForChange #DesignWithPurpose #InclusiveDesign #MiamiDadeHousing #WalkableNeighborhoods #DesignForGood
